Good evening everybody. Hope you are all enjoying the first glimpse of summer (apparantly). These couple of weeks I have had swollen glands and currently on voice rest. I’ve been wanting to post another cover of mine up but now is not the perfect time. So, I will post another blog which I am enjoying alot at the moment and I hope you do to.
So this month has been humongous news for Drag Race fans. RuPaul has announced the cast for the returning All Stars series. For those of you who have not seen All Stars, this competion features returning contenstants from past seasons that compete to earn a place in the Drag Race Hall Of Fame.
The show premiers on August 25th on Logo TV and somewhere on FaceBook for us UK fans.
In prepearation for the airing, I am going to discuss my personal favourites of this years All Stars.
I love the personality and insane dance skills of Alyssa. Recently, I found a new respect for Alyssa when she appeared on RuPaul’s podcast this month. Alyssa does a lot work with children in her own stage school, as well as being ‘drag mother’ to former Drag Race contestants like Gia Gunn, Shangela and Laganja Estranja. Like most performers that follow a career in drag they face tons of family issues, Alyssa is no secret to this and truly has worked hard for her accomplishments.
In season five, she is portayed as dated which I hope will change. My favourite moment has to be her lip syncing with Roxxxy Andrews of ‘Whip My Hair’ by Willow Smith. The most surreal battle of both performers pulling it out of nowhere.
I imagine all of us racers will be intrigued to see the relationship between Coco and Alyssa one more time. Made for great TV and I am sure there is unfinished business. I think Alyssa has a good chance of being in the top three.
Another popular queen from season five. Detox came fourth in the competition and was the top pick to win. Now she has a second chance and I think she will return better than ever.
Detox is throughly entertaining in her season. I particularly loved her quirky jaw thing when she lip synced. She sometimes came across arrogant but I imagine she is humble and glad to be there.
Her runway looks are incredible too. I loved the black and white look she supported in the finale of season five.
If she doesn’t win, I think she will shine.
That’s right. As well as Roxxxy Andrews and Detox, we have the final member of Brolaskatox, Alaska.
From watching RuPaul and the World Of Wonder YouTube shows, Brolaska is highly entertaining. Her humour is so wacky and it looks like she is in her own little world.
Alaska in season five wanted to break out her own success. Being the ex boyfriend of Sharon Needles, Alaska needed to show she was different than Needles. She didn’t show that enough but with her success after the show, she will be a contender to take down on the runway. I imagine she will be in the top three.
My final pick to complete my winning combination is Adore Delano.
Being the only season six queen, I think this gives her a clear advantage as the season five queens will compare each other like they did before.
Adore is a strong competitior. She has the voice, the look and the personality. She seems loverly on and behind the camera.
Throughout season six, we saw Adore struggle to compete with a cast of experienced queens. Towards the end, she shines and finds her strengths and rockstar like charecter. The best moment was her performance in ‘Sissy That Walk’, possible my most listened to RuPaul song. She is also the one queen to have a fantastic receptition to her music. She released her first debut album ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ in 2014, followed another studio album titled ‘After Party’ recently released. If you have never heard her check it out!
There are my picks just to name a few. It is super to see a lot of season five queens as I consider that to be the most successful, popular and entertaining of all seasons. Including Phi Phi O’Hara, Katya, Ginger Minj and Tatianna, this cast will be a delight to watch and will be fully appreciated by Drag Race fans. All that is left to say is gentleman… start your engines!
